The main objective of a facelift is to make the face look younger. This can be done by removing excessive facial skin using surgical methods, as aging causes the face to lose skin elasticity as well as muscle tone.
You may be candidate for a facelift (rhytidectomy) if you have experienced a loss of skin elasticity and muscle tone of the face and neck. A facelift may also be desirable if you have the appearance of jowls and deep creases between the base of the nose and the corners of the mouth, and developed facial and neck wrinkles.
Lately I’ve noticed a stubborn little crease on my forehead. I lift the skin just a bit, mimicking a facelift – and the crease disappears. During a facelift, the surgeon makes an incision, usually around the hairline, and then pulls the facial skin upward to smooth loose skin and wrinkles, and provide a more youthful appearance.
How does it feel when you discover the first silver streak peeping out of your hairline? It definitely gives you a feeling which we can well assume is not altogether palatable. The same happens as you discover the first ‘crow’s feet’ under your eyes.
All of us go through a natural process as we age that produces drooping and sagging of facial tissue, causing folds and wrinkles that make us look older. Sun exposure, genetics, and age all play a hand in how drastically this aging process affects our appearance, but loose and wrinkled skin is a common problem for most people. Many choose a facelift as a solution to this aging process.
